The Chipata City Council (CCC) has noted with concern, falsehoods published in some sections of the media, alleging that the institution forcefully closed down locally owned shops as the nation mourned the late first republican president, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.
CCC public relations manager Charity Mtonga says that the alleged information circulating that the Council Police went round closing down shops saying it was a directive from State House is not true.
Ms Mtonga has told ZANIS that the Council did not conduct any such operation adding that the statement is incorrect and malicious.
She says that the local authority has been conducting night enforcement operations in collaboration with state Police, observing those that are breaching Covid-19 guidelines.
And Ms Mtonga says the statement circulating in some sections of media shall not deter Chipata City Council from continuing to conduct itself in a professional manner.
